Lieutenant Colonel Ryan Whittemore is a native of Westborough, MA. He was commissioned in 1994 as a Distinguished Military Graduate from Lock Haven University. He entered Active Duty as a Field Artillery officer at Fort Sill, OK.
After the Field Artillery Officer Basic Course, LTC Whittemore served as a Platoon Fire Direction Officer, Platoon Leader/ Executive Officer. He then deployed to Bosnia to work on the 1st Armored Division Staff in support of Operation JOINT FORGE. Following the Field Artillery Officer Advanced Course, he was assigned to the 10th Mountain Division and served as a Battalion Fire Support Officer, Battalion Fire Direction Officer and Commander of B Battery, 3d Battalion, 6th Field Artillery. During his command, his Battery deployed as the Quick Reaction Force in support of Operation JOINT GUARDIAN. Ryan was then selected to serve as the Battalion Fire Support Officer for the 3d Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment at Fort Benning, GA. He completed two deployments to Operation ENDURING FREEDOM, and one deployment to Operation IRAQI FREEDOM during his time with the Regiment. He then served as an Instructor at the United States Army Infantry School, teaching Fire Support and Leadership.
As a field grade officer, LTC Whittemore served as the Executive Officer for the Mosul Brigade National Police Transition Team. He deployed again to Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. He was then selected to serve as the Fire Support Officer for the 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne) at Fort Carson, CO.
LTC Whittemore’s additional military education includes the Combined Arms and Services Staff School, Air Command and Staff College, Airborne School, Air Assault School, Ranger School, Summer Mountain Warfare School, Winter Mountain Warfare School, Joint Firepower Control Course, Joint Operational Fires and Effects Course, Joint Targeting Staff Course, Collateral Damage Estimation Course, and the United States Marine Corps Tactical Air Control Party Course.
LTC Whittemore’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star w/OLC, the Meritorious Service Medal w/2 OLC, the Army Commendation Medal w/OLC, the Iraqi Campaign Medal, the Afghan Campaign, the Combat Action Badge and Australian Parachutist Badge. He is also a recipient of the Order of Saint Barbara, and the Order of Saint Maurice.
